FACTS
  • NIT formerly known as REC, Durgapur is a joint venture of the Govt. Of India and Govt. Of West Bengal, and is administered by an autonomous Board of Governors.

  • The Minister In-charge of Higher Education of the W.B Govt. is the present Chairman of the Board which includes representatives from the Central and State Governments., AICTE, UGC, University of Burdwan, IIT Kharagpur, Industries and the Faculty.

  • NIT is located about 160 KMs north-west of Calcutta on the Howrah-Delhi Railway-Route and overlooking the great Grand-Trunk Road.

  • The college spreads over an area of 187 acres of land. It is fully residential and co-educational.

    The college offers courses of study leading to BE Degree in the following disciplines:

    The medium of instruction and examination is English.

    The duration of each course is four academic years. Each academic year ( 1st July to 30th June ) is divided into two semesters of about eighteen weeks only.

    The courses include study at the college, visits to work sites and practical training in the College Workshop and in approved Engineering Works.

  • Post-Graduate & Research

    The College also offers courses of study and facilities for Research leading to MTech ( Industry Oriented ), MCA and PhD in various fields of specialisation.

    Short term course(two weeks)

    Computational Intelligence and its Applications It will be held in National Institute Of Technology (Deemed University), Durgapur organized by the Departments of Comp. Science and Engg. , Master of Computer Applications and Master of Business Administrations on May 16-27, 2005.

    The topics to be covered are:

    Fuzzy Logic theory
    Rough Set its theory
    Artificial Neural Networks
    Evolutionary Computations and their hybridisations and applications on different areas like:
    Pattern recognitions and classifications
    Image analysis
    System (Fuzzy, Neuro-Fuzzy, Nero-Fuzzy-Geno) Identification including Feature Selection, Rule Generation etc.
    Bio-Informatics
    Robotics
    Finance

    Eminent Scientists, Professors from all over the India will deliver their Lectures in the above mentioned course.

    Only the teachers from UG/PG level, researchers and industrial personnel can attend the school on first come first serve basis.

Trivia
  • The college has a full fledged Physical Training Department for the students.

  • The college organises its annual cultural festival NIT 'TANTRA RECSTACY' every year and various inter-college cultural competitions are also organised.

  • The students bring out a College magazine annually where they publish literary and technical articles.

  • To motivate the students in social services, the college has a unit of National Service Scheme (NSS). The students of this unit render social services in the nearby rural areas.

  • MUKTI-A 3 day workshop of the Linux Users Group was held on 18th January,2005.

  • The Literary Circle(LC) consists of a small group of students who take the initiative for organising a variety of extra-curricular programmes like quizzes, debate, linx-jinx etc in the Institute. It is an independent student body, the members of which comprise of representatives from each year.

  • LC also comes out with a newsletter called "Double Speak". This newsletter which publishes poetry, fiction, music & informative articles, is the mouthpiece of the students giving an insight to their thoughts and feelings.

  • Cine Fest is the annual event organised some time in the mid of February. During 5 days, daily 3 movies are screened at the open air auditorium of the college.

  • AAROHAN - This three day long Techno-Scientific extravaganza is a tribute to technological developments that have been made by young flourishing minds all over the country.

  • Art Club - Chayanika
